Blood Work, 2009
single channel HDV video and sound
3 min.

Blood Work is an abstract meditation on the desire for “blood,” real or imagined, within the horror film genre. The video playfully narrows the mise-en-scène of the horror genre through the absence of the body, or victim, and the exaggeration of sound and editing. Blood Work isolates props in the studio and creates a visceral corporeal presence through the animation of fake blood. Visually, the video alternates between shots of a messy stagehand that helps the video’s main character, "blood," splash, drip and ooze. Working within the conventions and clichés of the genre, the video and soundtrack combine to question off-screen space and the mechanization of illusion.

Motive, 2008
high definition video

“Motive” examines 8 University of Minnesota Cheerleaders as they perform. Their individual performances are composited into a flickering video of the group as a whole. The resultant concatenation reveals subtle shifts in gesture and affect as each individual cheerleader attempts to synchronize her movement with the others.

Metamorphoses (Britney)

Metamorphoses (Oprah)

The Metamorphosis Series, 2008

The Metamorphoses series (Biggie, Britney, George, Oprah and Michael) was shot at Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum earlier this year. It documents transgressive and playful interactions that occur as people perform and stage encounters with “celebrities”.

46″ LCD panels with embedded Blu-ray players mounted inside custom frames.

Closed Circuit, 2007
3:45, continuous loop

Inspired by the opening sequences from the pilot of the television show “Columbo” in which a musical score guides you through a crime being committed, Closed Circuit surveils a similarly visually lush environment (as was common to this program), but steers without a plot. Closed Circuit places the viewer
suspended in time and simultaneously moving forward as he follows the path of the phone. The video uses an endless loop, both visually and musically, to create a simple form that reveals its complexity through repetition, rather than a defining moment. The title Closed Circuit refers to the loop, while also calling to mind television surveillance systems that document without a human presence.

Shop until you Drop, 2006

this project involves a series of installations realized in a shopping mall. the city of Almelo had invited me to realize a temporal project in the public domain of Almelo. after exploring the city my choice was to use a shopping mall which is half used. the other half of the complex has been vacant for several years and is an ‘unheimlich’ place to be. I have build 5 shop windows in the empty shops in the theme of
abundance and discomfort. the installations show different living accommodations where
window-figures are busy with daily activities. they are surrounded by products and stuff in galore. by placing the mannequins out of the context they are usually used for, a certain alienation arises which evokes hilarity. the spectators are no longer the shopping-audience but voyeurs.
